Arne Slot has moved to calm speculation over his future at Liverpool F.C., insisting he expects to remain in charge next season despite growing scrutiny following a disappointing campaign.

Liverpool, who won the Premier League title last season under Slot, have struggled to replicate that form this year. They sit fourth in the table and are on course to qualify for the Champions League, but will finish the season without a trophy after failing to mount a serious title defence.

The drop-off in performances has triggered increasing pressure on the Dutch coach, with sections of supporters growing frustrated over the team’s inconsistency and tactical approach. The situation has also been complicated by external speculation linking potential managerial candidates to elite jobs across Europe, intensifying debate around Slot’s long-term position at Anfield.

Speaking about his future, Slot made it clear he does not believe an imminent change is being considered by the club. He stressed that he is under contract and remains involved in planning for the next season alongside Liverpool’s hierarchy.

“I don’t think I am deciding that myself alone,” he said, suggesting that decisions are shared between him and the club’s leadership structure. He added that he sees no indication he will be replaced, pointing to ongoing discussions about recruitment and squad planning as evidence that he remains part of Liverpool’s long-term project.

“I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season,” he stated, reinforcing his confidence in staying at the club. He also highlighted that transfer and squad planning conversations are already underway, with his input included in those discussions.

When asked about criticism from fans and media, Slot acknowledged the intensity of modern scrutiny in football but dismissed the idea that it is unique to Liverpool. He suggested that public debate around managers is now constant and widespread, amplified by social media and round-the-clock sports coverage.

“If a club doesn’t have its best season, there is always debate,” he said, adding that everyone is entitled to an opinion. He also joked about the level of criticism circulating online, reflecting on how much more visible public judgement has become compared to previous eras.

Despite the criticism, Liverpool remain in a relatively strong position to secure Champions League qualification, with a small cushion over teams below them and only a few matches left in the season.

However, the overall sentiment around the club remains mixed, with disappointment over the lack of progress compared to last season’s title-winning campaign continuing to fuel uncertainty about whether Slot will need to respond decisively in the summer transfer window to restore confidence in his project.
