Barcelona have reportedly stepped up their interest in Tottenham defender Cristian Romero, with the Catalan giants closely watching the Premier League club’s precarious league position.
The Blaugrana are aiming to return to La Liga’s salary limit this summer, which would significantly boost their ability to strengthen key areas, including central defence, attack, and the left wing. However, Barcelona remain focused on value-for-money opportunities rather than blockbuster signings.
Tottenham’s unexpected relegation battle could hand Barcelona exactly that. Spurs currently sit in the bottom three, and dropping to the Championship would likely force the North London club into selling some of their top earners.
According to reports, Barcelona have already initiated contact with Romero’s representatives. Sporting director Decoviews the Argentine World Cup winner as a strong alternative to Alessandro Bastoni, who remains the club’s preferred defensive target.
Romero’s leadership, experience, and aggressive one-on-one defending are qualities highly valued by Barcelona’s recruitment team. The 28-year-old has also previously expressed his ambition to play in Spain, which could further boost the Blaugrana’s chances.
